Radio France

Strategic brand visual identity, graphic design, illustration

Radio France, the national public radio broadcaster of France, is a major player in the podcasting world, with over 100 million podcast listens each month on the application and on the website.

Its diverse stations, France Inter, France Culture, France Musique, franceinfo, ICI (formerly France Bleu), FIP and MOUV, offer a rich array of podcasts covering news, culture, storytelling, and music.

podcast design: a long collaboration

Since 2018, Wild Branch has been collaborating regularly with the editorial team to create compelling and unique visual identities for podcasts, series, and selections.

Over the years, we’ve created several thousand visual identities, designs, and illustrations to represent the vast array of podcast and radio content available to listeners.

the process to designing a podcast cover

Each station offers a dizzying array of content. So, in order to attract the right audience, the podcast must have a visual that speaks to the style of a particular station, as well as the tone of the producer and the content.

Because each podcast is so different, and likely contains unfamiliar information to the designer, it is important to try to understand each program with lots of curiosity–putting oneself in the place of a fan. The profile may be man from Burgundy in his late 50s, a woman in her 30s who loves audio fictions, or even a young 20-something from Bordeaux who loves rap music.

There is literally something for everybody on the Radiofrance application and website.

In light of this, the branding collaboration requires a good grasp on graphic culture. We are constantly being tested on what makes a particular style appealing to a distinct audience. And we are always learning and applying different modern and historic visual trends–both in terms of pop culture as well as more niche subjects.

We are very proud of the success of the application, having followed it in its beginnings up until today.

Aside the quality of Radiofrance programs and the talent of the editorial team, we also know that visuals have played a large role in attracting and encouraging listeners across the country and the French-speaking world.

Through the client's eyes

“Kelsey has worked alongside me at the helm of digital strategy for Radio France. Together, we built an audio offering on the Radio France app and website that is attractive, diverse, and accessible to the general public. If the platform is now enjoying great success, we owe much of it to Kelsey.

She played a key role in every aspect of our visual strategy: interface design, editorial style guides, podcast graphic design, and illustration. Her creative talent, daily dedication, deep understanding of the needs of a major media organization, and ability to adapt to constant change made working with her easy, enriching, efficient, and full of good spirit.”
